Byron's Smokehouse :: Auburn's Favorite Breakfast

Ahhh a good southern breakfast. The phrase “southern breakfast” conjures up visuals of front porches, rocking chairs, homemade biscuits, gravy and whirl of friends and family passing food around the table.

My grandmother grew up on a farm in Oklahoma before moving to Houston, so she knows how to cook a homemade southern breakfast. Cousins, aunts and uncles would scramble for the breakfast table the morning after a Houston arrival EAGER with anticipation of the goodies that were able to hit the table. And, no fail, each one of us left table table rolling (over indulgence in the bacon + biscuits).

Byron’s Smokehouse in Auburn hits closest to home for me (the family feel, old school atmosphere, friendly faces, and golden flakey biscuits). There’s nothing I enjoy more than a good breakfast biscuit early in the morning (with a cup of coffee, of course). Bryon’s is a local Auburn BBQ joint well known for their affordable, well-portioned breakfasts.

Auburn grads long gone still speak fondly of their slow, weekend breakfasts at Byron’s. Every time I pull up to the old smokehouse, it’s a FEAT to find a parking spot. And not because the parking lot lacks spaces, but because it’s so popular. You’ll find the 4-wheel drive trucks up on the curbs and in the grass and customers chowing down on biscuits from their trunks of their SUVs.

You won’t find a fancy website + menu or social media accounts belonging to Bryon’s. They’re truly old school and beloved by the local crowd. Word of mouth travels fast in a small town. If you ever find yourself with a hankering for a (rather large) sausage biscuit, Byron’s is your spot!
