Auburn-Opelika Summer Happenings

Ahhh sweet summertime. And the temperatures in the south seem to compete with each other: “HIGHEST SCORE WINS!” And all of us nod to each other as we scurry in and out of the AC. However, I love finding some great community events to get myself outside and enjoy the true spirit of summertime. Thankfully, the Auburn / Opelika area has a SLEW of fun activities to check out.

AUBURN/OPELIKA SUMMER TO-DO LIST

CHEERS ON THE CORNER. We attended the Downtown Auburn “Cheers on a Corner” event last year and had such a blast! The participating downtown shops stay open late and partner with local restaurants/eateries to showcase merchandise + food + drink wine. Plus, there’s live music and fun giveaways. What says “SUMMER!” more than a neighborhood block party?

AMPERSAND $5 WINE NIGHTS. Need I say more? Ampersand offers a selection of $5 wines on Wednesday evenings and they are ALL delicious. It’s truly a deal, and there’s nothing I love better than a DEAL + a GOOD glass of wine.

LEMONADE @ TOOMERS. Toomer’s Corner is a local legend in Auburn. It’s a family owned an operated old school soda fountain/drug store. Many an Auburn grad has taken their graduation photos in front of this building, and they are famous for their classic Toomer’s lemonade. And who doesn’t love an ice cold lemonade on a hot summer’s day? I’d love to know how much Toomer’s sells during warmer gameday weekends, because I’m sure its a shocking amount.

SUMMER MOVIES. Bring the fam + all the friends to a movie in the park! Aubs/Opelika is doing a summer movie series, and will be featuring HOOK on July 26th in Municipal Park! Picnics in the park are a summer classic.

OPELIKA MAIN STREET ON TAP. Again - who doesn’t love a good food and beverage festival? Opelika is set to feature over 24 craft breweries on Saturday, July 27th. Ticket holders will be able to taste their way through downtown.

COLLEGIATE HOTEL ROOFTOP PARTY. Rooftop party? Yes, please. The Collegiate has one of the best rooftop views in town and can serve some killer cocktails. Thursday nights, The Collegiate stays open late and feature a DJ / live music on the roof. Summer nights are better closer to the stars! (P.S. Get an inside look at the Collegiate Hotel, HERE).
